Breakfast with St. Nick

Breakfast with St. Nick is a fun-filled family event that occurs on a Saturday in early December. Volunteers are needed to help decorate, prepare food, set-up serving area and tables, serve food, assist with crowd management and clean up. Event includes breakfast, stories about St. Nick, and a great opportunity to socialize with the TFS community.

Catholic School’s Week (CSW)

Catholic School’s Week is a nationally scheduled annual celebration. Volunteers needed to execute the many activities planned during the week long event. Activities are planned in collaboration with School Administration and implemented by the Chair and volunteers.

CHILD

(Children Helping in Loving Deeds)

Volunteers needed to assist with organized service projects that enable TFS students to give generously of their time, talent, and treasure through community need-based projects. Plan projects, purchase materials and provide supervision and guidance of CHILD service projects.

Classroom Support

Our classrooms depend on us to provide chair pockets to store their books and school supplies. Help is needed to organize, purchase fabric and sew new chair pockets. Other support provided upon request and approval.

Cultural Arts

Volunteers needed to assist and select, schedule and host live performances, that supplement TFS students’ exposure to music, drama, writing and art. Committee members include parents and several TFS faculty. Planning begins in the summer and requires attending several meetings.

Meetings held in summer and early fall. Performances held periodically throughout the year – approx. 1 ½ to 2 hours per performance.

Earth Week

Earth Week is a national event focused on the earth and our environment. Volunteers needed to assist with projects designed to involve students and families, to better our knowledge of protecting our environment.

Eighth Grade Commencement Reception

7th grade parents host this annual reception for 8th grade graduates and their families. Duties include food preparation, set-up, serving and clean-up after the reception.

Fall Fund Raiser

Many hands are needed to orchestrate our fundraising events of the year. Volunteers are needed to assist in many ways: planning, computer skills and publicity.

Field Day

Many hands needed to host this annual day full of fun for TFS students. Volunteers needed to secure supplies, staff assigned stations, and help with a wide variety of activities.

First Communion Reception

First grade parents host a small reception following mass in celebration of 2nd grader students who have received the sacrament of First Communion.

Gospel Share

Volunteers needed to share the upcoming Sunday Gospel with TFS students in the classroom. Scheduled classroom time determined by the teacher. Volunteers prepare ahead of time, then read the Gospel, and initiate a discussion to help the students reflect on what they hear God saying to them through the Gospel. Instruction and training provided.          

 

1 ½ hours per week (1 hour for preparation, 20-30 minutes in the classroom) twice a month.

 

Must attend a yearly Training Meeting.

Hospitality

Volunteers needed to organize and provide refreshments and hospitality at various school and HSA sponsored functions throughout the year. Typically, there are ~9-10 functions where refreshments are needed. The primary responsibilities are to set-up, provide refreshments, and clean up after the event.

Interested gardeners needed to plant and water annuals at designated locations on the TFS campus in the fall and spring. The committee is also responsible for upkeep of the plantings surrounding the statue of the Blessed Virgin. And Butterfly Garden

Lost and Found

A flexible but important task. Help return lost and found articles to the proper student.

Milk Recycling

Volunteers needed to Recycle Milk Cartons at each lunch. Volunteers arrive in Jacoba at the first lunch 11:00 to collect milk cartons once the children had finished their milk. The cartons are lightly rinsed and added to a recycle bin. The last lunch is served at 1pm.

One volunteer per day for the lunch period (11:00 – 1:30)

No Fuss Fundraisers

 

Volunteers needed to collect, trim, and send in box tops. Publicity needed throughout the year to promote our ongoing no-fuss fundraisers.

Volunteers needed to welcome families and give campus tours. Adults and Middle School student volunteers needed.

Passage Home

Advent Passage Home food collection supports underprivileged families in Raleigh over the Winter Break. Each TFS classroom plans meals and provides food for their adopted family's lunch and dinner for a week over Winter Break. A Christmas dinner is also provided. Volunteers are responsible to plan the meals with students in the classroom- assign food to students, and collect food donations from students. The food is boxed. labeled, loaded onto trucks and delivered. Two volunteers are needed per classroom.

(Fall Social)

 

Volunteers needed to organize and host Pizza Bingo. Primary duties: help with publicity, decorations, food, planned activities, and clean-up. Assistance needed to recruit and schedule volunteers for shifts during the event.

Volunteers needed to help with room set-up, crowd management, and hair combing. Assist photographers as needed. School pictures taken 3 times: Fall, Spring, and class pictures. Assistance may be needed for pictures of sports teams and extracurricular activity groups.

Volunteer need to maintain inventory of supplies for H.S.A. activities. Track use and re-order supplies as needed, communicate supply resources to H.S.A. Committee chairs, especially tablecloths.

Assemble photographic display of faculty and staff. Take pictures of new staff. Display Picture Wall at Meet & Greet and other start of school events.

Uniform Swap

Volunteers needed to organize annual uniform swap; families sell or purchase gently used TFS uniforms. Collect and sort uniforms, set-up, customer service and check-out, take down and distribute money to sellers.

Welcoming (formerly Newcomers)

Work together to help new TFS families feel welcome. Volunteers answer questions, make connections with TFS families and provide ongoing support to ensure new families feel connected to our community. Committee members help during Parent Information Night and during TFS Open Houses. 

 

Ongoing throughout the year, although more involvement in the Fall - approximately 6-8 hours.
