Student Profile

Children accepted to Kindergarten are given the DIAL-3 (Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning-3). While not a diagnostic tool for learning disabilities, it is an indicator of at-risk children who may need further assessment.

A comprehensive screening tool, the DIAL follows an empirically based developmental sequence of behaviors in motor, conceptual, language, self-help, and social development from ages 3 to 6. It is based on competencies that pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade teachers indicate are necessary for success in a regular classroom setting.

Standardized testing for Grades 3 through 8 indicates that the TFS student population is generally able and high achieving when compared to the school-age population nationally, scoring beyond both national and diocesan means and grade equivalents. Students coming into TFS at grade levels beyond Kindergarten are thus carefully evaluated in the admissions process on the basis of their prior scholastic achievement, academic and personal recommendations, and standardized test scores.

While limited auxiliary services are available (see Educational Programs), TFS does not currently possess the quantity of staff or expertise to serve a broad range of student needs.

The Franciscan School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, or gender. It does not discriminate on the basis of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, or gender in the administration of its admissions, employment, or educational programs or policies.

The Catholic Schools Office, in compliance with federal law, annually publishes notice of nondiscrimination in the NC Catholic.
