The first grade class recently traveled to Duke Children’s Hospital, sharing their gift of song and presenting the hospital with 136 receiving blankets, blessed by Father Steve, for the babies in the NICU. One of our TFS parents works in the Duke Children’s Hospital NICU and shared that some of the babies in the NICU are born so tiny that the standard blankets the hospital uses are too big for their little bodies. There are also families that cannot afford to buy blankets for their babies. Babies in the NICU will receive a blanket and the parents will take those blankets home, wash them and bring them back and forth to the hospital for their baby to use during their stay. Unlike the standard hospital blankets, this is their own personal, special blanket given to them by our first grade class.
Our first graders also performed Christmas songs to cheer hospital staff, patients, and families. Singing to the staff, patients, and families is an annual tradition for the first grade since 2000, that is special for everyone who participates!
