The Heart of TFS: Why Parent Volunteers Matter

At The Franciscan School, community is the foundation of who we are. On any given day, you’ll find parents helping in classrooms, supporting teachers, and bringing energy to school traditions that make TFS feel like home. Parent volunteers are a vital thread in the fabric of our school, and the events and initiatives hosted by our Home and School Association (HSA) wouldn’t be possible without them.

The HSA plays a unique role in strengthening the bridge between school and home. By sponsoring programs, events, and grants that enhance both academic and spiritual life, the HSA helps enrich the student experience. The HSA ensures that every TFS student benefits from opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.

HSA President, Heather Rigney, shares that “The heart of TFS is our community, and parent involvement plays a key role in fostering that. The events the HSA hosts throughout the year wouldn’t be possible without the support and involvement of our parent volunteers.”

Each year, the HSA relies on a strong network of volunteers to bring these efforts to life. This spring alone, events like Trivia Night, ticketed events purchased through the Franciscan Experience, and Field Day need additional hands, whether for planning, setup, leadership roles, or simple one-time tasks. Volunteers make these events possible, and along the way, they can discover a deeper connection to the school through their involvement.

From Principal Dawn Smith’s perspective, parent volunteers are essential. “At TFS, parents are a vital part of our mission,” she shares. “When parents volunteer, they are not only supporting teachers and staff but also modeling service and engagement for their children. This partnership enriches our school culture and ensures that each child experiences the full strength of our Franciscan community.”

If you’ve been considering getting involved or are simply curious about the opportunities, now is the perfect time. Whether you have an hour to give or are looking for a more consistent commitment, there’s a place for your time, gifts, and talents within the HSA. Principal Smith reiterates, “The HSA needs a strong pool of volunteers to ensure that events and initiatives run smoothly and that our community continues to thrive.”
