Spanish Curriculum

The Franciscan School offers students a rich interactive program based on a progressive curriculum interwoven with religious values. They will learn the vocabulary and the grammar structures needed to be proficient in at least Spanish Level 1, by the time they start Middle School. At a Spanish Level 1, students will apply the vocabulary and the grammar structures they learned in Elementary in order to communicate and express themselves effectively in a variety of contexts, such as a restaurant, store, school and more. Upon 8th Grade, students will apply the knowledge gained to start at least Spanish II in High School.

In our classrooms, students are immersed in a variety of learning experiences that encourage them to learn Spanish in a fun and productive way. Each lesson involves a prayer, a cultural aspect and the four language skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading. Additionally, we incorporate the 4 C’s of education during the activities and/or assignments they carry out in class; these are: cooperation, communication, critical thinking and creativity. We speak to our students mostly in Spanish (about 90% of the time) and the resources used in class are mainly in Spanish.
