Centuries after his death, St. Francis of Assisi continues to inspire millions of people through his strong faith, his love for God’s creation, his service to the poor, and his commitment to peace. His example reminds us that holiness isn’t reserved for the leaders or found in extraordinary moments. It can be part of the way we love God and serve others each day.

This year, Catholics around the world are celebrating a special Jubilee Year, the Year of St. Francis, a time to reflect on the legacy of our beloved saint, who continues to inspire generations of Christians.

For TFS and St. Francis of Assisi Parish, this Jubilee is especially meaningful, as it is named for our patron saint, who lived a life of humility and service, as well as a deep love for God and his creation. We have a unique opportunity to both celebrate our Franciscan heritage and the mission that continues to guide our school and parish today.

The Jubilee Year honors the life of St. Francis and invites us to examine our lives and renew our commitment to serving through faith, which shapes daily life at TFS. Bishop Krzysztof Nykiel, Regent of the Apostolic Penitentiary, shares, "The Year of Saint Francis shouldn't just be about 'special effects' or big events, but a quiet journey from excitement to maturity—moving from big celebrations to the simple, daily imitation of Francis's life," as told on the Diocese of Raleigh website.

The Jubilee Year of St. Francis also serves as a reminder that St. Francis’ example is as relevant today as it was 800 years ago. His call to encounter God through compassion and service challenges each of us to see God’s presence in one another and in the world around us. These are not ideals reserved for saints, but are lived out through everyday choices to welcome others, seek peace, and put faith into action.

Throughout the Jubilee Year, St. Francis of Assisi Parish will offer a variety of opportunities for parishoners, school families, and visitors to deepen their understanding of faith formation and service through the life of St. Francis. Through special liturgies, faith formation events, campus experiences, service opportunities, and community celebrations, people will be invited to explore St. Francis’ life and how he compels us to live on mission.

A self-guided audio walking tour introduces individuals to the history of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and to the artwork and sacred spaces across campus.

Stacey Shine, Director of Engagement and Development at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, shares that “We would love to see TFS families participate in the many Jubilee events and opportunities planned for the entire parish community. One activity I highly recommend is for families to take time to experience the audio walking tour of our campus together. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our parish, the life of St. Francis, and the Franciscan values that continue to shape our community.”
