Step into the classroom of 3rd-grade teacher Mrs. Vicki Ramstetter, and you’ll find movement, energy, and the exciting buzz of students actively engaged in learning. Whether students are solving math problems during a game of Scoot or learning with Play-Doh, it’s clear the classroom is built on joy and purpose.
Mrs. Ramstetter grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Seton High School, a Catholic all-girls high school. She then attended the University of Mount Saint Joseph, where she pursued a degree in elementary education. Before TFS, she taught in Cincinnati for eight school years, four years at a charter school and four years at a Catholic school. She taught 2 years in second grade, and the rest has always been third grade. “I absolutely adore third grade,” she shares.
Since joining the TFS team in 2022, Mrs. Ramstetter has poured her passion for teaching into every lesson, especially in math, her favorite subject. She also has a passion for reading now as an adult, and tries to read different genres in class to foster a love of reading in students. “Third grade, in my opinion, is the best grade,” she shares. “Students are learning to become more independent, and I'm always thrilled to see that lightbulb moment for students. It never gets old to see it click.”
In Mrs. Ramstetter’s classroom, the day begins with Brain Teasers to get minds warmed up, many of which were donated by supportive families over the years. From there, the learning never slows. Mrs. Ramstetter's class is frequently on the move, rotating through centers, spreading out on the carpet, or transitioning between songs and games.
Assistant Principal Jennifer Davis shares, “Mrs. Ramstetter has a great sense of humor, and she is a lot of fun to work with. Her influence helps us all lean into the positive, and her humble approach to teaching is notably inspiring. I simply just enjoy being around her, and so do her students.”
“The reason I became a teacher was that I wanted to help students love learning and see that it can be enjoyable,” shares Mrs. Ramstetter. “I try to present things in different ways. By doing so, I think I can reach each student individually who might not understand it the first go around.”
Her teaching partner, Mrs. Barbara Koval, shares the same enthusiasm. “Mrs. Ramstetter is deeply committed to her students’ success,” she says. “She keeps kids engaged and holds them to high expectations, helping them believe in their potential. We share many laughs and concerns. It’s a joy to work alongside her.”
Mrs. Koval also shares that their faith ultimately brings a more profound purpose to their work, so they are grateful to have that in common.
In Mrs. Ramstetter’s classroom, learning is not just about mastering math facts or reading fluently; it is also about developing a love for learning. It’s about discovering joy in the process and instilling confidence in the students. With her passion for teaching and creative spirit, Mrs. Ramstetter is shaping a classroom where students feel seen, supported, and inspired.
